DECONSTRUCTION OF THE CLASSIC COMIC IN THE WORK OF SERGIO TOPPI

Abstract

Abstract. The article identifies the stylistic dominants of the visual language in Sergio Toppi’s graphic novels. The transformation of the author’s comics architecture in the context of the stable structure of comics has been studied. The valuable artistic features of the works of Sergio Toppi as a representative of the author’s comics have been determined. The specifics of the sociocultural life of the author were considered in order to trace the correlation between artistic and career development and elements of deconstruction of established classical structural foundations using the example of his most iconic works. During the structural review of art works, the authors used inductive and comparative research methods, as well as the method of analysis and synthesis, analytical and comparative ones, the method of periodization, and the method of visual, morphological-compositional, and complex analyzes. The problem raised in the article is an important layer in the enrichment of theoretical knowledge about countless possibilities of creative expression in the construction of a painting. The peculiarities of artist’s creative searches in the comic culture are revealed, and the interrelationships between the individual vision of the comic and the deconstructive methods, which help him modify classical principles, are disclosed. In the future, this publication could also serve for studying the work of the author or his followers; it will be useful for better understanding of the stylistic and narrative elements in modern paintings.
