THE ROLE OF MOUNTS IN RESTORATION OF APPLIED ART MOVABLE HERITAGE

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this article is to study the role of mounts in the restoration and museum’s exposition of archaeological applied art movable heritage. Methods. Using the method of analysis, based on studies on restoration theory and practice, the necessity of exhibiting some exhibits using mounts was highlighted. A common characteristic of exposition and restoration activities was revealed by the method of synthesis. Based on the comparative method, general trends in mountmaking were revealed. Results. This article examines the theoretical preconditions and some practical aspects of the art of exhibition mountmaking. The specificity of objects of use as movable heritage in the framework of restoration theory and practice is observed. The study outlines the general development of the mountmaking in the context of some museums in the U.S. and the UK. The study revealed crucial aspects of craftsmanship in mountmaking practice that have not yet been worked out in Ukraine, especially in museology, fine art, and conservation education areas. Conclusions. The research reveals the significance of the informative and aesthetic aspects of mounts in the museum’s exposition. Due to the department of restoration of applied art of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (2023) graduates’ mountmaking practice, some technical and technological properties of materials were set out. As a result of the analysis of similar studies and the practical work of graduates, solutions to the expositional challenges of some exhibits were pointed out. The research results contain valuable theoretical and practical developments that have poten tial in the exhibition preparation area.
