ORNAMENTAL MOTIVES IN THE WORK OF OLEKSANDR SAYENKO

Ornament has been a means of decoration in decorative art since ancient times, intended for decorating various household items, furniture, clothing, textiles, ceramics, and architectural structures. The purpose of the study is ornamental motifs in the work of Oleksandr Sayenko, an artist of monumental and decorative art who freely operated with the knowledge of ornament construction and actively used it in decorative works (carpets, decorative fabric, ceramics, furniture, straw mosaics). The research methodology consists in applying an art historical approach to the historical and artistic analysis of O. Sayenko's ornamental works, the compositional construction of the works. Various research methods were applied: comparison, analysis, generalizing theoretical methods. The relevance of the study is important in affirming national and cultural identity in modern conditions through the prism of the work of O. Sayenko, who used various ornamental motifs and compositional schemes in his works that echo the traditions of folk art. The understanding of ornamentation in O. Sayenko was instilled by V. Krychevsky, who introduced ornamentation in the design of the interiors of public buildings, book graphics, banknotes, coats of arms of the UNR, and carpet sketches. The analysis of ornamental motifs in the work of O. Sayenko will be important for students of educational institutions. The scientific novelty lies in the attempt of art historical and stylistic analysis of Sayenko's ornamental compositions of the first half of the twentieth century, which is being carried out for the first time. Conclusions. The results of the study highlight the features of artistic solutions in the works of O. Sayenko and will be useful to students, especially of the decorative direction, who study the basics of composition. The work of O. Sayenko is a characteristic reflection of innovative trends in the art of the 20th century and an example of the formation of the Ukrainian style in art.
