COMIC ASPECTS IN THE ARCHITECTURAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE CITY: SPATIAL, SEMANTIC, AND SOCIAL

The purpose of the study is to identify comedy as a full-fledged aesthetic and analytical category for understanding the architectural environment of a city and to determine its role in the structure of spatial dramaturgy alongside drama. Research methods. The study is based on the theoretical analysis of philosophical, cultural, and architectural-theoretical works in which comedy is considered as an aesthetic and sociocultural phenomenon. The comparative analysis of dramatic and comedic mechanisms of spatial organization of the urban environment, semantic analysis of architectural images and symbols, as well as the analysis of everyday practices of space use were applied. The interpretation of specific spatial situations is used as the illustrative material to identify patterns of the manifestation of the comic in the architectural environment of the city. Main results and conclusions. It has been established that comedy functions as an alternative mode of spatial dramaturgy, which does not oppose drama but complements it. The comic in the architectural environment of the city manifests itself through fragmentation, openness of interpretation, semantic shifts, scale and functional inconsistencies, as well as through the bodily practices of users. The main types of comic manifestations in urban space have been systematized and their connection with the processes of democratization, inclusiveness, and reduction of spatial hierarchy has been revealed. The scientific novelty lies in the justification of comedy as a tool for analyzing the contemporary urban environment. The results obtained are significant for architectural theory, architectural education, and critical reflection on design practice.
