TRANSFORMATION OF ART MUSEUMS: BETWEEN HERITAGE CONSERVATION AND SPATIAL DIALOGUE

Abstract

The article explores the architectural and artistic expressiveness of contemporary art museums as a leading idea in their transformation in response to sociocultural changes. Special attention is given to the interrelation between spatial-volumetric structure and functional purpose, the communicative role of architecture, the emotional perception of museum space, and new trends in modernization and expansion. The research employs comprehensive and systematic approaches involving methods of analysis, synthesis, comparative-historical and descriptive methods. The results show that the architectural and artistic expressiveness of art museums increasingly takes on the role of an independent exhibit while also delicately blending into the historical urban fabric without disturbing the historical city silhouette. Conclusions. Art museums are striving to respond to the challenges of modernity by employing innovative participatory practices. There is a noted need for the development of new strategies for transforming Ukrainian art museums based on the accumulation of international experience, taking into account the specifics of the present day. The innovation of art museums in all major cities of Ukraine is a pressing issue that demands proper theoretical justification, as the transformation of museums as repositories of artistic treasures is of great relevance.
