MYKOLA STOROZHENKO’S ABSTRACTIONS: INNER UNIVERSE

Abstract

Abstract. This article presents the abstract works of Mykola Storozhenko of the 1960s–2000s. The genesis of the artist's experiments with pure form and means of artistic expression was traced; the socio-cultural prerequisites of this vector of his creativity were highlighted. The typological foundations and periodization of M. Storozhenko's non-figurative painting were identified; some little-known and unpublished works of the artist were attributed and introduced into scholarly discourse, and priorities of his artistic search in separate groups of works were clarified. The article also examines and analyzes the stylistic and compositional features of the art works in the context of the elements’ interrelationship within the picture field. Considerable attention was paid to the properties of artistic space in M. Storozhenko's abstractions; an attempt to identify correlations between the compositional elements of individual works and the worldview and philosophical foundations of the outstanding artist was made. It was proved that the artist's active referral to objectless art in the period of 1960–1990s and early 2000s took place amidst a multi-level experimental concept. M. Storozhenko organically combined the experience of European modernism with his formal and stylistic searches and technological developments.
